News from England
Washington, England
January - February 1999
The first two months have simply flown by. There has been an absolute flurry of activity here in Washington. On the 16th of January we started painting in the building. We hired scaffolding and worked through the night on the 15th preparing the surfaces for painting (mainly the teenagers after about 12:00 AM). Then we started and painted through the remainder of the weekend. We still are adding the finishing touches, but things look a great deal brighter and more inviting, and also very colourful (bright orange). Very European.
We have put a lot of effort into the planning and organisation of Bible Fayre. this summer. There is a great deal of excitement with regard to the group from Lubbock coming. Martin Holder is so excited he spent a great deal of his time on his recent 2 week visit to Lubbock working with members of the team on plans for the summer.
On the 12th of February I arrived in Lubbock to attend the wedding of Steve and Nicole Smith. Steve is from Washington. I was in Lubbock all of 45 hours and then returned to catch up on things here in England and I am still trying to catch up. I had a wonderful time in Lubbock and it was great to see so many of the people whom we love so dearly. It was also great to be able to spend a few hours with the team that is coming across this summer for Bible Fayre.
On the 27th of February we launched a revamped outreach project. It is designed to appeal to people that are not accustomed to church. We meet in the home of Amanda Pollock on the last Saturday of each month. It is geared to involve people in fellowship activities centred around a study of the Gospel of Mark. At our first meeting we had 12 people in attendance and we hope and pray that the Lord will bless this attempt to reach the lost in our community.
On Saturday the 27th of February, Joseph Hannan and I drove down to the British Bible School in Corby and picked up 4 students. These students are going to work with us here in Washington for the week. We have 5,000 leaflets for them to distribute. One of them preached for us on Sunday. They are also helping with an effort to sort out clothing and materials to be sent to the needy in Poland. Of the 4 students 1 is English, 1 is Albanian, 1 is Russian, and 1 is from Uganda. A very international group.
During February we have had the announcement of two engagements. Frank Reid announced his engagement on the 14th of February and Roger Jackson announced his on the 21st of February.
The church here is continuing to grow in both maturity and numbers. Please pray for us as we strive to serve the Lord in a loving and caring way in an environment that so often ridicules such values. Thank you for all you wonderful support and prayers. May God richly bless you all.
Sincerely Yours, In Christ,
The Thomases
